We
were performing Moliere's play, The Miser, at
College of the Mainland Arena Theatre, in Texas City,
Texas, and a little girl, probably 4 or 5 years old,
was sitting with her parents in the front row. She
was fascinated by the characters and the costumes and
was totally absorbed in the action of the play.
We
were in the scene where Harpigon, the miser, rushes
into the garden shouting about his stolen money chest.
His valet, La Fleche, is onstage, but hiding, because
La Fleche has the chest and hears Harpigon coming.
When
Harpigon, in his long speech, shouts the lines "Where
is he? Where does he hide himself?", the little
girl jumps up and points at the hiding La Fleche
and shouts "There he is! There he is!"
Now
THAT was a moment.
